About the Object
Part of Danh Võ’s ongoing We the People project, this sculpture reproduces a full-scale fragment of the Statue of Liberty. This section comes from the drapery near the base of the monument. Removed from its original context, the sweeping copper folds appear both grand and abstract, highlighted by the interplay of material and surface. Like all works in the series, the fragment was fabricated in Shanghai using traditional repoussé techniques and forms part of a larger sculpture dispersed across multiple locations worldwide.
