About the Object

This large-scale piece parallels a section of Liberty’s drapery located below the tablet-bearing arm. With cascading copper folds displayed independently, they become difficult to identify as part of the Statue of Liberty. In turn, this work emphasizes sculptural form and material presence. As with the other sections of We the People, the fragment forms part of a larger sculpture that can never be fully assembled in a single location.
