The Vilcek Foundation is committed to supporting diversity in the sciences. Greater visibility and recognition of women and minorities in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) is a vital component of increasing scientific education and advancement. We support celebrating and empowering women in STEM careers. In alignment with these values, we share a free digital coloring book centering 26 outstanding women in science and medicine: Think Like a Girl: A Coloring Book of Women Pioneers in STEM.

Scientists and physicians featured in the book include mRNA vaccine pioneer Katalin Karikó, public health advocate Mona Hanna-Attisha, neuroscientist Viviana Gradinaru, and cancer researchers Angelika Amon and Titia de Lange. The women featured in the book are both important leaders in STEM and immigrants to the United States who have been recognized by the Vilcek Foundation with a Vilcek Prize or a Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise in Biomedical Science, or the Vilcek-Gold Award for Humanism in Healthcare.

The coloring book includes descriptions of each of the scientists’ work, accompanied by illustrations of the scientists by Paula Kinsel. The book also includes a resource list of organizations that support women and girls in science.

“Women and girls are continuously breaking down barriers to empower others to join the collective force towards scientific advancement,” writes Pardis Sabeti in the book’s introduction. “Scientific ingenuity thrives on creativity, inquisitive minds, and true diversity of thought, ideas, and experiences.”
