Set in the Bronx, New York, this painting of a nocturnal scene features a bright red house set in a rocky landscape. From the bottom left corner a tan path seems to emerge, running past the house and curving behind the rocks. Leafy trees seem to reach across the canvas toward the roof of the house, while smaller patches of green suggest bushes or shrubs.
This painting was included in the exhibition 20 New Oils on Panel by Oscar Bluemner at the Whitney Studio Galleries in November 1929. Following the death of his wife in 1926, Bluemner moved to Braintree, Massachusetts, where he lived for the rest of his life.
