About the Artist

Philippines-born Stanley Ruiz is known as a product designer and multimedia artist based in Brooklyn, New York. With an extensive background in craft design and production, Ruiz’s work combines natural and industrial elements to bring a new meaning to familiar object archetypes.

Born and raised in Manila, he first became interested in craft design while studying at the University of Philippines College of Fine Arts. This experience took him to Bali, where he learned to appreciate traditional culture and craft. After three years in Bali, he moved to New York, where his work took a more contemporary turn. In 2012, Ruiz moved back to the Philippines to start his own firm: Estudio Ruiz Design Consultancy. With an amalgam of different experiences, Ruiz’s work is very simple yet effective, familiar yet foreign. His pieces are less decorative, evoking a raw aesthetic that is derived from his interest in traditional handicrafts.
