About the Object
This small Futurist-inspired oil sketch features bright, faceted planes of color that suggest panes of stained glass and capture the lights and excitement of Coney Island.
Additional Information
A study for Stella’s monumental Battle of Lights, Coney Island, Mardi Gras, 1913–14 in the Yale University Art Gallery Collection, trying to find the piece in the larger work is a fun and maddening experience. Stella also explored the amusement park in tondo form in Coney Island, 1914, in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
