Immigrant artists invited to submit computer-based and new media works

New York, July 9, 2012 — The Vilcek Foundation is pleased to announce its second annual Call for Entries in Digital Art. The Foundation is now accepting new media and computer-generated art entries from foreign-born artists to exhibit on the dARTboard, a digital art space launched in 2012 to celebrate and highlight the accomplishments of immigrant artists working in the realm of new media art.

The Vilcek Foundation invites artists born outside the United States and now living and working in this country to submit samples of projects created in a variety of computerbased and new media formats. Following review by an expert in the field, one applicant will be chosen to exhibit work in the Foundation’s digital art space; he or she will also receive an Artist’s Honorarium of $5,000. The artist’s work will be shown on the dARTboard on Vilcek.org—joining the ranks of the inaugural dARTboard winner, Ukrainian-born artist Irina Danilova, whose work was displayed during this art space’s premier exhibition in Spring 2012.

Of this initiative, Executive Director Rick Kinsel said, “The innovative spirit of immigrant artists and scientists constantly drives our efforts to raise awareness of their contributions to U.S. society. Among these varied accomplishments, immigrant artists have served as pioneers in the burgeoning realm of new media art. The dARTboard, now in its sophomore year, was developed as a globally accessible forum to celebrate and foster this creativity, and to make these achievements known beyond the walls of the Foundation’s headquarters gallery.”

Eligibility requirements, in brief, are as follows:

  • Applicants must be foreign-born (originally foreign citizens) and be permanent U.S. residents (green card holders) or naturalized U.S. citizens.
  • All materials must be submitted electronically, via the online application form and email, to dartboard@vilcek.org before 5pm EDT on October 22nd, 2012.

Applications are now available on Vilcek.org, where full details about eligibility and submission requirements are also provided.
