The Coloring Book of Pueblo Pottery jacket cover

The Coloring Book of Pueblo Pottery includes photographs, illustrations, and information on 32 works of Native American pottery from the Vilcek Foundation Collection. Brian Vallo (Pueblo of Acoma), Vilcek Foundation curatorial consultant for Native American initiatives, provided research and context on works of pottery included in the coloring book. Paula Kinsel provided the book’s illustrations. This vibrant book is available from Merrell Publishers.

In the book’s introduction, Vallo provides insights on the sovereignty of Native American tribes in North America and describes the rich history of the Pueblo tribes of New Mexico and the Hopi tribe of Arizona. He describes the cultural history of pottery making and the use of pottery in these communities.

Vallo writes, “To the Pueblo people, pottery represents the continuance of life. I invite you to enjoy these drawings of the pottery and ask that you think about the people and cultures from which these incredibly beautiful pots originate.”
