The Vilcek Foundation has announced an open call for applications for the 2021 Vilcek Prizes for Creative Promise, to be awarded in biomedical science and in filmmaking. A total of six prizes will be awarded, three in each category. The Vilcek Prizes for Creative Promise honor and support early career immigrant artists and scientists living and working in the United States. Each recipient of a Vilcek Prize for Creative Promise receives a commemorative award, and an unrestricted cash prize of $50,000.

The category for the Vilcek Prizes for Creative Promise in the arts and humanities – awarded this year in filmmaking – rotate on an annual basis. Past categories for the Vilcek Prizes for Creative Promise in the arts and humanities include theatre, literature, fine arts, dance, culinary arts, fashion, design, architecture, and contemporary music. The Vilcek Prizes for Creative Promise in biomedical science have been awarded to physicians and researchers whose work spans many areas. Recipients of the Vilcek Prizes for Creative Promise are selected by an independent jury on the merits of their early career accomplishments: representing significant contributions to their field, and a unique perspective or approach to their work that has the potential to have a wider impact on society.
