When Jan and Marica Vilcek established their foundation a dozen years ago, they set out with the singular mission to celebrate the achievements of immigrants.
That “entrepreneurial spirit,” as Mrs. Vilcek describes it, is honored annually with the Vilcek Prize. The prizes, which carry a $100,000 award and are decided by an independent jury, are given to a foreign-born scientist and an artist in the U.S. On Monday, the Vilcek Foundation will announce its 2012 winners.
