The inaugural award was bestowed on Dr. Mona Hanna-Attisha for her leadership in the discovery and mitigation efforts regarding lead contamination in the public water supply in Flint, Michigan. The 2020 award was given to Dr. Vivek Murthy, 19th and 21st Surgeon General of the United States, for his humanistic approach to addressing public health crises in the United States. In 2021, the Vilcek-Gold Award was given jointly to Dr. Denisse Rojas Marquez and Dr. Jirayut “New” Latthivongskorn.
