Photograph looking up at the Third Avenue Elevated train tracks in New York. Built between 1885 and 1887, it was the last elevated line to operate in Manhattan, with service ending in 1955.

Crawford created a group of works related to the El including a photograph Support for the Third Avenue Elevated, 1949, and gouache Study for Third Avenue Elevated, 1952, both in the Harvard Art Museums, and a lithograph Third Avenue Elevated #1, 1952, in the Museum of Modern Art.
