About the Object
In SBL-1601, the concentration of lines at the center of the paper creates a deep void of rich indigo, while the surrounding lines come bursting out. The lines within the piece are somewhat traceable, but then disappear within the mix, allowing one to get lost in the mark making of Il Lee’s focused hand.
Additional Information
Often describing his work as “intuitive,” Lee’s process involves focusing on the ink and paper as well as his hand. In doing so, he is able to create abstract forms that are built up with concentrated and unconcentrated lines. As a result, Lee’s pieces are chaotic but calm; looking at them becomes a form of meditation in its own right.
