About the Object
Crawford created this ink drawing after his visit to the Curtiss-Wright Aircraft plant in Buffalo, New York. It is part of a series of studies, this one featuring a group of nacelle sections, housings for airplane parts, at the plant.
Additional Information
Crawford signed, dated, and dedicated the drawing at the lower left: for James / Crawford / 20 Mar. ’47. Presumably this was James V. Herring (1887–1969), an artist and chairman of the Howard University art department. Herring founded the Howard University Gallery of Art and arranged an exhibition of Crawford’s drawings there from May 2-15, 1947.
