Volunteer-based non-profit receives $10,000 grant

New York City, NY (August 30, 2012) — The Vilcek Foundation today demonstrated its support of the Fun Fun Saturday Program offered by the United East Athletics Association (UEAA) with the award of a $10,000 grant, designated to provide a safe and educational environment for immigrant children on the Lower East Side of Manhattan.

Established in 1976, UEAA’s initial goal of was to make physical education programs available to recent-immigrant youths in New York’s Chinatown.  As the organization grew, it expanded beyond sport-oriented programs to include community services, educational programs, and cultural activities.

The primary purpose of Fun Fun Saturday Program, begun nineteen years ago, is to enhance the quality of life in the Asian-American community. Activities are geared toward helping children learn new subjects and express their creativity.  And while enjoying UEAA’s  various programs, participants also learn to develop lasting friendships among their peers.

“The Vilcek Foundation admires UEAA’s commitment to enriching the lives of Asian American youth,” said Rick Kinsel, Executive Director of the Vilcek Foundation.  “It is especially impressive that UEAA, staffed entirely by volunteers, is able to offer to more than three-hundred and fifty children, from seven to fifteen years old, such a wide range of classes—arts and crafts, various sports, and English literacy.”

“The Fun Fun Saturday program,” Mr. Kinsel added, “addresses the developmental needs of young children in the Chinatown area, helping them to pave their way to a bright future and to make outstanding contributions to American society.”
