In our third annual dARTboard exhibition, we are excited to announce three winning artists chosen from an extremely competitive pool of applicants for the dARTboard Call for Entries this past fall.
Canadian-born Nicholas Hanna, South Korean-born Ha Na Lee, and Salvadorian-born Fernando Orellana join past dARTboard recipients Marc Böhlen and Irina Danilova to represent a new generation of immigrant artists whose work reshapes our perception of new media art, utilizing digital technology as a central component in their varied works.
Each artist will receive a $5,000 honorarium — tripling this year’s annual dARTboard prize money.
Bubble Device #2 is a software-driven robotic bubble machine that sparks within the viewer, of whatever age, a childlike sense of curiosity and wonder.
Vestiges, Part II, is a sensor-rigged stairwell in which the artist has created a liminal space between the psychological and the phsyical; the dream and the waking.
Shadows is a series of works meant to be used posthumously in which objects recently found at estate sales are measured for changes in temperature, infrared frequencies, and electromagnetic frequencies — three elements commonly associated with paranormal activity.
