As the communications officer, Shelby Roller brings her love of storytelling and 10 years of experience in content creation, project management, and marketing to her work promoting the organization’s mission. Prior to starting at the Vilcek Foundation, Roller applied her adaptive style to communications positions at nonprofits such as Georgetown University, the National Immigration Forum, and Social Venture Partners Chicago. Her experience spans science journalism, copywriting, web and graphic design, social media marketing, event planning, and program management.
In each of her previous positions, Roller has championed individuals and nonprofits making an impact in social justice. Roller is now focused on applying a creative and data-driven approach to communications initiatives that build connections and foster awareness of the foundation’s social impact.
Roller earned dual BAs in Environmental Policy and European Studies from William and Mary and a MA in Communication, Culture & Technology from Georgetown University.
In addition to her passion for social justice work, Roller is an artist and illustrator. When she isn’t drawing her next children’s book, you can find Roller attempting hobbies like stand up comedy, volunteering for Mutual Aid NYC, or finding new bookstores across the city.
